Groundbreaking Ceremony of Westowne Elementary School

Groundbreaking Ceremony of Westowne Elementary School

This past Monday morning, a groundbreaking ceremony was held celebrating the beginning of construction of the new $31M, 90,040-SF Westowne Elementary School which will replace the existing elementary school.

Using the GWWO prototype, which was just recently used for the new Lyons Mill Elementary School, the design was adapted so that the new school could be sited on the existing recreation fields adjacent to the existing building. Designed in accordance with 21st century learning principles, the school is laid out in a series of neighborhoods with colors coinciding to each grade level to provide a sense of identity for students. This provides an organizing structure that makes each grade into its own neighborhood of learners and teachers and provides flexible and adaptable spaces for learning. The school is designed to achieve LEED Silver Certification and is projected to open for students in August 2016.
