The ceremonial groundbreaking to celebrate Baltimore County Public Schools' new Northeast Area Elementary School in Perry Hall was held yesterday morning.
A reconfiguration of the GWWO prototype, the design was adapted to the site and the classroom wing was redesigned to provide for additional flexibility in assigning classroom spaces across grade levels. With a focus on community and collaboration, the new school has several collaborative learning commons, extended learning areas, and a rooftop classroom that incorporates a vegetated roof assembly. In addition to general classrooms, the school will include special education classrooms, a media center, cafeteria, gymnasium, administrative areas, and space for the Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks. The $49M, LEED Silver (anticipated) school is scheduled to open in September 2018.
