Severna Park High School is now open!
Last Thursday, the school held its official ribbon cutting ceremony as students and faculty returned for classes and became acquainted with the brand new state-of-the-art facility. The $92.5M project replaced the outdated 1959 school and is the first new high school in the county in more than three decades. The replacement building expanded the school’s space from about 296,000-SF to about 354,000-SF and holds over 300 more students than the previous building. The new school features general classrooms, an outdoor courtyard, library media center, science labs, special ed classrooms, tech-ed classrooms, career counseling center, administrative areas, auditorium, theater room, music classrooms, dance studio, and a gym twice the size of the previous one. The old building will be demolished and a football stadium, athletic fields, and expanded parking will be constructed in its place. That phase of the project is expected to be completed by the summer of 2018.
