Westowne Elementary School Opens for Students

Westowne Elementary School Opens for Students

As Baltimore County students head back to school today, many are getting to experience the brand new Westowne Elementary School for the very first time.

Based on the same GWWO prototype as Lyons Mill Elementary School which opened last August, the new elementary school is arranged in a series of neighborhoods with colors coinciding to each grade level, promoting a sense of identity for students. Using expanses of glass to maintain a consistent dialogue between the inside and out, the design also promotes out of the classroom learning and features a rooftop classroom and outdoor learning space. The new school is expected to achieve LEED Silver certification. Prior to the beginning of classes, the project was featured in an article by the Baltimore Sun.
