Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitor Center Opens Next Weekend

Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitor Center Opens Next Weekend

Next weekend, the public is invited to the grand opening of the new Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitor Center!

The National Park Service and the Maryland Park Service have teamed up to provide a series of events and activities at the site to celebrate the opening, which coincides with Harriet Tubman Day (March 10th). One of the many events will include a presentation by Senior Associate Chris Elcock who will talk about the hidden symbolism in the visitor center and surrounding landscape. Just earlier this morning, Chris sat down with WYPR for a segment of On the Record to discuss some of the ways Harriet Tubman's life and legacy are illustrated in the design of the new visitor center. To learn a little about the building's design before the official grand opening, listen to the interview here!
