Nearing capacity, the original Swansfield Elementary School needed a renovation, spatial reorganization, and addition to accommodate enrollment projections and improve the learning environment.

An administrative addition adjacent to the main entrance positions school leaders at the entry and creates a secure entry vestibule while a new canopy promotes a more welcoming and visible entry. Located at the rear of the school, a new light-filled classroom addition houses general classrooms, art rooms, music rooms, as well as an extended learning room. Modifications to existing classrooms increase daylighting, improve acoustics, and correct spatial inefficiencies while an enlarged cafeteria accommodates the additional enrollment. All finishes, equipment, and building systems were replaced, and numerous modifications for code compliance were implemented.

Diligent planning for this occupied, phased renovation allowed for continuous school operations throughout construction. Phases one and four were completed under an accelerated schedule during the summer months while phases two, three, and five were completed while the school remained in session.

What our Clients Say

"Modernizing and expanding an existing building to meet today’s educational standards requires creativity and ingenuity. The GWWO team demonstrated these qualities throughout the design and construction process. In addition to achieving the desired results for the learning environment, they were mindful of the project’s schedule and budget, including giving careful thought to both initial and lifecycle costs."
