Jayden Schexnayder, / GWWO Architects

Jayden Schexnayder

Jayden came to the world of architecture via a love for Minecraft during childhood. Building those pixelated graphic worlds led him to pursue a way to translate that passion into real world creations. This interest in a holistic approach has influenced his passion for how context, both physical and historical, impacts the ultimate design of a project.

Jayden has a Bachelor of Architecture from Syracuse University. During his time there, he was heavily involved with many student organizations, including serving on the Student Mentor Squad and participating in the NOMAS annual design competition.

What has been the most important innovation you have witnessed in your lifetime?

Podcasts! Without them, I wouldn’t have discovered GWWO. It was through the Making the Museum podcast episode with Alan Reed on Story-Based Design that I listened to while doing research for my thesis project that I discovered GWWO and finally found the words for this design philosophy that drove my architectural thinking throughout my academic career.

What is your favorite book?

My favorite book is “House of Leaves” by Mark Danielewski, an ergodic-literature horror book where a film maker finds out that his house is bigger than it seems on the inside. The book features three different narrators and uses a lot of fun formatting, footnoting, and experimentation with text to create a one-of-a-kind reading experience! Also, the main villain in the story is the architecture!
