Alice believes the mark of a great playground or park is a place the community never wants to leave. She has committed her professional career to achieving that end by creating spaces that are responsive to and reflective of the people that use them. A core tenet of her approach to design is slowing down and taking the time to listen – to clients, to colleagues, to community partners, and to the environment itself.
Alice is a member of the Urban Land Institute, as well as the Women’s Leadership Initiative, and is a board member for the Friends of Maryland’s Olmstead Parks and Landscapes. She is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University with a degree in Landscape Architecture.
When not creating useful and beautiful outdoor spaces, Alice enjoys open water swimming, embroidery, and collecting cookbooks. She is also a longtime volunteer for Meals on Wheels of Central Maryland – delivering meals to aging, homebound, and disabled adults in West Baltimore.
What is the best vacation you’ve ever been on?
A 2-week safari through Kenya with my husband, my then 6 year old son, and my mother. We enjoyed these lovely happy hours on the Masai Mara called Sundowners. Our guide would find us a quiet spot, break out a huge spread of food and drinks, and then we’d sit in the grass of the reserve with wildebeest and zebra hanging out all around us. It was magical.
