St. Mary’s College of Maryland has awarded GWWO and its design partner, GUND Partnership, of Cambridge, MA the commission to design its new Academic Building & Auditorium.
The College selected GWWO and GUND after a competitive procurement process which included other nationally-recognized firms. The new 52,000-SF building will knit together a residential precinct with the academic core of the campus, create enclosed and open spaces that will enhance the College’s environment, and provide a cultural venue of significant importance to the College, St. Mary’s County, and the southern Maryland region. The building's program includes classrooms, labs, and faculty offices for the Music and Education Studies departments, a 700-seat auditorium, and a technology-rich Study Commons. The facility is part of the College’s 2012 – 2027 Facilities Master Plan to alleviate existing academic space deficiencies, especially for class labs in the arts and sciences. We look forward to working with St. Mary's on this significant campus project.
