GWWO Employees Volunteer at Green Apple Service Day

GWWO Employees Volunteer at Green Apple Service Day

This September, members of GWWO’s staff organized Green Apple Service Day as part of the Baltimore Chapter AIA’s Emerging Professional’s Committee.

The Service Day was conceived to pair teams of design professionals with Arlington Elementary and Middle Schools to improve the schools’ outdoor environments. Prior to the event, GWWO hosted a design charrette which involved landscape architects, designers and architects, as well as local architecture students, to develop a custom design for planter benches to be built in front of the team’s school partner. GWWO members worked in conjunction with several other volunteers and sponsors to help students install native and drought tolerant-grasses and flowers in the cells of the planters to give a little more pizzazz to the school’s landscape. The students anticipate painting the planters and benches to brighten up their school’s appearance.
