Designed to take advantage of the topography of the site, the new Crofton Area High School consists of a three-story academic bar linked to the media center, gym, cafeteria, and administration by connecting corridors on the second and third floors. This maximizes the daylight in classrooms, a proven factor in student performance. Additionally, the layout allows the core instructional programs close access to outdoor amenities including an amphitheater and wetland nature trails.

A distinctive two-story lobby welcomes students and faculty and provides opportunities for gathering with amphitheater-style seating neighboring the main stairs. Benches adjacent to classrooms and along the connecting corridors prompt quick collaboration or study before class. Break-out spaces with flexible furniture promote collaboration and allow for differentiated learning.
