Rita Church Community Center Wins Second Preservation Award

Rita Church Community Center Wins Second Preservation Award

The Rita Church Community Center has been named by Baltimore Heritage as one of the year’s best Restoration & Rehabilitation projects.

GWWO designed the exterior and interior rehabilitation of the former Clifton Park Pool House—which was designed in 1920 and partially renovated in 2001—to supply new spaces for community use including a lounge, multi-purpose room, kitchen/craft room, game room, computer lab and various support spaces. The lounge, located at the center of the building provides a tall open space that allows elements of the historic structure, such as the heavy timber trusses and masonry chimneys, to be integrated into the rehabilitation. This is the second preservation award for the project, which took home a Maryland Historical Trust Preservation Award for Excellence in Commercial/Institutional Rehabilitation in 2014.
