Trustees of Morven Museum & Garden in Princeton, NJ recently gathered to celebrate the long-awaited groundbreaking ceremony of the Stockton Education Center.
Home to the historic former governor’s Mansion which is now a state museum, Morven’s mission is to celebrate the rich history of the site, as well as of the state. The new center will help fulfill this mission by providing new on-site programming spaces that will educate and orient visitors to the grounds. Sited adjacent to the historic Mansion, the new education center will have a welcoming character and a strong relationship to the surrounding gardens, while bearing a secondary relationship to the Mansion–the site’s most important element. In addition to programming space, the new facility will house visitor amenities such as ticketing, orientation space, and a gift shop, a dedicated classroom, offices, and storage space. Construction is slated to begin in early March and the center is anticipated to open in the spring of 2018.
