Over the weekend, GWWO, Inc./Architects teamed up with Hampden’s Independence School Local 1 for the second year in a row to participate in the worldwide Green Apple Day of Service.
On Saturday, September 27, thousands of students, teachers, companies, organizations and individuals from around the globe worked to improve school environments through service projects.
Here in Baltimore, GWWO, in conjunction with several other volunteers and students, put the gardens to bed for the winter, cleaned and weeded the site, painted new wooden benches, and restored the student memorial bench that the team built last year. The team also constructed a straw bale mock-up that will be will be used for student instruction. At the end of the year, all of the student-assembled structures will be massed into an outdoor shed that will house the school’s gardening materials.
