In late April, GWWO staff members joined thousands of volunteers around the globe in participating in USGBC’s Green Apple Day of Service—a day dedicated to transforming school environments into safe, healthy, and sustainable learning spaces.
GWWO employees accompanied volunteers from the local community at Garrett Heights Elementary Middle School to continue their work from previous years on projects to enhance the school's outdoor classroom and spaces. Staff members helped with tasks such as gardening, cleaning, and painting. Together, the volunteers worked towards completing projects including intalling and planting flower beds, fixing loose stumps in the outdoor classroom, adding wood chips to the playground, completing the installation of a rain barrel in the butterfly garden, and adding hopscotch and four-square on the blacktop.
Since it began in 2012, Green Apple Day of Service has inspired almost a million people in over 70 countries to act in support of sustainability at their schools. We're always proud to support this cause and work towards making school communities a more sustainable and enjoyable learning environment.
