Construction Underway at Northeast Area Elementary School at Ridge Road

Today's groundbreaking ceremony celebrated the official start of construction for the new Northeast Area Elementary School at Ridge Road. 

The new 735-state rated capacity school will address overcrowding in northeastern Baltimore County, one of the county’s fastest growing areas. The school, an adaptation of GWWO’s prototype, was carefully sited to respond to the wooded setting, reducing land impact while maintaining an equitable quality of educational space. 

The building is organized around a central core housing the lobby, cafeteria, gymnasium, and shared learning spaces, including the media center, makerspace, learning stair, and art and digital learning classrooms. Collaborative learning spaces are found within the two-story classroom wing, including a large learning commons on each floor, smaller extended learning areas shared by classroom pairs, and an outdoor learning garden. The school was designed to achieve LEED Silver certification and is scheduled to open in September 2022.
