Groundbreaking Held for Morgan State University's Student Services Building

The groundbreaking ceremony for Morgan State University’s new 139,000-SF Student Services Building was held this morning. 

The new building will be deemed the new Calvin and Tina Tyler Hall in honor of the Tyler’s generous donation. The center will be a one-stop student services hub and new ‘front door’ to Morgan State University welcoming visitors, prospective students, and their families. “This site is particularly important, not just as a gateway to campus, but also because it serves as a transition from the traditional architecture associated with Morgan’s founding to the more contemporary architecture reflective of the university’s 21st century approach to higher education” says Alan Reed, FAIA, LEED AP, GWWO President.

Together with Teeple Architects out of Toronto, the GWWO-Teeple Architects team worked with MSU and the campus community in a participatory creative process to design a striking new gateway building that embodies the university’s heritage, identity, and mission. Key design principles include enhanced technology and an adaptable, sustainable design that supports staff and students well into the future.  As the new home to student services and various business functions, it will foster a sense of community and synergy. The project will also provide additional space to support campus functions, staff, and future growth. The anticipated LEED Silver Certified building and is expected to be complete in 2020.
