GWWO Takes Top Prize in AIA Baltimore’s Annual 12 x 12 Competition
This year’s 12 x 12 competition challenged entrants to reflect on the theme “Baltimore 2157 A.D.” and to creatively represent a vision of what a sustainable Baltimore or an aspect of it will be or look like in the future. GWWO’s team of Associate AIA members Amanda Brown, Sarah Gratz, Kyle Isfalt, Monica Pascatore, Madhuri Subramaniam, and Chris Tom crafted an entry within the 12 x 12 cube limits that caught the judge’s attention and earned top prize, with the following comments from Adam Blumenthal, Executive Director of the Baltimore Architecture Foundation:
“The entry from GWWO envisions Baltimore as a multi-dimensional city that reflects the residential interest in sustainability and urban design. The abstracted graphic qualities of many of the tiles implied a focus on nature within an urban context. The multiple layers of the entry implied an increased density while still maintaining Baltimore’s historic street grid, a necessary condition with current population projections. The entry shows that Baltimore, like all cities, is a collection of past, present, and future.”
