Alan Reed was one of those kids that built constantly—buildings from cardboard boxes and towered cities from dominoes. After taking a technical drafting class in eighth grade, he knew he wanted to become an architect. Today, Alan’s passion for design remains ardent. With GWWO since the firm’s inception, he has served as Design Principal since 1997 and was named President of the firm in 2005. His focus is on the creation, coordination and implementation of design concepts.

Alan has established a strong design ethic at GWWO and has elevated the firm’s reputation for inspirational and evocative design work in its cultural and educational markets. An expert in the design of visitor centers and related facilities, he has spoken on issues such as visitor flow and contextual design at conferences that include the National Interpreter’s Workshop and the annual Building Museums Conference in Washington, DC. His work has been featured by Architectural Record, Landscape Architecture and Buildings magazine and has received accolades at the national, regional and local levels. Most recently, he was honored by his alma mater, Ball State University, as a recipient of the College of Architecture and Planning Alumni Society’s Award of Outstanding Achievement.

Alan holds both Bachelor of Architecture and Bachelor of Environmental Science degrees from Ball State. A past President and active member of the Baltimore Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, he has also served on numerous design award juries and as a critic and student mentor at Morgan State University. Currently, he is a member of the Board of Directors at Hannah More School and the Morgan State University Institute of Architecture & Planning Advisory Board.
