After participating in a state-wide design competition, GWWO was selected to design one of Maryland’s most prominent public spaces—the 95,000-SF Marine Mammal Pavilion at the National Aquarium in Baltimore. Located in the heart of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, the pavilion is connected to the main Aquarium building by an enclosed bridge.
The pavilion takes its design clues from the original building to create a unified complex. The glazed pyramid roof floods the amphitheater with natural light and a wall of glass behind the 1.5 million gallon tank offers the Aquarium’s more than 1 million annual visitors spectacular views of the Inner Harbor.
